Here is a simple explanation of how/when to post on the NEOCP blog.
When you initially target an object, post something like this:
—Tim, obs code 696, is targeting 6YuAA43, 7:05 UT.
If you see the object in your frames, then perhaps a note saying that you see the object:
—Tim, code 696, 7:12 UT: I can see the object in my frames. No need for further follow up of this object tonight!
Or, perhaps, you cannot see the object:
—Tim, obs code 696, 7:32 UT: I can’t find 6YuAA43. Perhaps I am not going faint enough. Or the uncertainty is too large for my small field. Help needed from another telescope!
In this fashion, observers can all see what you are targeting, and observing successfully. So with very minimal communication, coordination should improve dramatically.
In short, post when you target something, and when you see it. If you don’t see it, post this. If the object is running away from the prediction quickly, also post this—perhaps it is very close. Of course feel free to post general comments on anything relevant to the business of follow-up!
We hope this helps,
—The Admin.
