The Minor Planet Electronic Circulars contain information on unusual
minor planets and routine data on comets. They are published
on behalf of Division F of the International Astronomical Union by the
Minor Planet Center, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory,
                              Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A.

         I. Enoh (National Astronomical Observatory of Japan) reported the
discovery of a potential comet by M. Iwamoto (872). Confirmation of the
cometary nature came from K. Kadota (349), who reported a 2' diffuse coma
with central condensation and no tail. A. Hale reported his visual
confirmation from Cloudcroft, NM on Dec. 20.51 UTC (mag. 11.5, 3'.1 coma,
    0.41-m reflector). H. Sato (H06, Dec. 20.5319 UTC) reported a strongly-
condensed object with an outer coma 2'.9 in diameter and no obvious tail.
    B. Lutkenhoner (H06, Dec. 20.5315 UTC) reported a clear central condensation
and a coma diameter exceeding 1'. E. Guido (H06, Dec. 20.538 UTC), described
    a ~ 1'.5 diffuse coma with a sharp central condensation. M. Suzuki (W88)
reported a 1'.0 coma with a strong central condensation.
